Political Beats discusses Pavement's full careerĭiscord & Rhyme’s Wowee Zowee playlist (Spotify) Wowee Zowee: Pavement’s Weirdest Album Turns 20 (Nina Corcoran, Consequence of Sound) In the episode, we mention our friend and mentor Mark Prindle, who actually briefly appears in Pavement’s Slow Century DVD interviewing Scott Kannberg and Mark Ibold. Yes, that is a goat on the cover, not a dog. The album cover is an abstract painting by artist Steve Keene based on a photo originally published in a 1972 edition of Life Magazine seen here. The album title is actually an affectionate nod to the band’s former drummer Gary Young, who would say “wowee zowee” whenever he found something amazing. Stay tuned, because we have Zappa on our extended schedule! The episode intro is a spoof of “Wowie Zowie” by the Mothers of Invention, with vocals and lyrics by our own Producer Mike. Over the years, however, fans and critics have come around to the album’s wild, unpredictable twists and turns through gorgeous soundscapes, tossed-off blasts of punk fuzz, country-rock ballads, big power-pop hooks, and stoned weirdness. Released right as the band was positioned for a possible mainstream breakout, this sprawling, stylistic tour de force was apparently the last thing MTV’s Buzz Bin was looking for in 1995. "A Tear for Eddie" was dedicated to the funk/psychedelic guitar pioneer Eddie Hazel, who died December 23, 1992. The album is dedicated to comedian John Candy, who died while Ween was putting the album together. However, most of the instruments were still played by Dean and Gene Ween, including their drum machine.

It was the first Ween album to eschew the four-track recordings of their first three albums and utilize a professional recording studio. " Chocolate and Cheese was Ween's fourth studio album, originally released by Elektra Records in 1994. Get it and listen to it a lot! Sometimes cheesy, sometimes hard, sometimes beautiful, always silly, always totally believable (somehow). Now, I have Chocolate & Cheese and I've spent about a week listening to it. I fell completely in love with Pure Guava and didn't stop listening to it for months. One of his most recent collaborative releases is 2007s La Cucaracha, the tenth and final piece of discography released by Ween. Side A: Eric's Trip ( Peter/ Love Tara), Side B: Ween ( Pure Guava). Shortly after that I was given a tape by a friend. I was in grade 9 the first time I heard them, it was the video for Push Th' Little Daisies, and I was instantly impressed. Ween is one of those bands that I've always had a soft spot for. I remember hearing it was bad when it first came out, and at the time I was quite impressionable. For some reason i've managed to, despite loving Ween for many years now, go until about a week ago without ever hearing this album. Gene & Dean Ween (Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo) are always great, and this is no exception.
